I started Gallery Box because I kept noticing the same thing at events: people arrive a little guarded, and about fifteen minutes into making something with their hands, they loosen up. They talk to the person next to them. They ask questions. They leave with a piece of art and, more often than not, a new neighbor.

My background is in art and in working with groups, and the two have always been the same job to me — creating a space where people feel capable. Most of the folks at a Gallery Box table will tell you they're "not artistic." They're always wrong, and the project proves it.

Along the way I learned the other half of the problem: the people planning these events are stretched thin. So Gallery Box became full-service. We bring the artist, the plan, the materials, the flyers, the setup, the photos, and the cleanup.
